Unusual Victorian Arts And Crafts Metamorphic Library Steps / Chair
These Unusual 19th century Arts And Crafts Metamorphic Library Steps / Chair ca. 1890 are a type of archaic dual use furniture, constructed from solid oak, consisting of a small folding staircase that can be transformed into a chair. These were first built in the mid eighteenth century for private libraries and offices, these rooms often had high ceilings and floor to ceiling bookshelves, so moveable library steps were created as a form of domestic furniture. The oak has aged to a warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
