Striking Victorian Walnut Arts & Crafts Antique bookcase
This delightful, and very unusual, antique Victorian bookcase, circa 1890, is constructed from walnut and is a wonderful example of an Arts & Crafts piece. It has a central turned gallery along with turned finials along the top. Below these can be found four glazed doors with the original brass handles and key with working locks. Each interior section contains three adjustable shelves. The lower section is low waisted with a moulded top sitting above two central cupboard doors having raised fielded panels. The interior contains a single adjustable shelf. The two outer doors are half glazed, the lower sections having raised fielded panels. The interiors each contain a single adjustable shelf. Original detailed brass hinges feature strongly both on the upper and lower doors, amplifying the Arts & Crafts theme. The piece stands on shaped feet and splits into two sections for ease of removal. The walnut has aged to a warm medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
