Antique Edwardian Chairs are from the Edwardian period of 1901 to 1910. Contrary to popular myth, top quality timbers were used in their construction from solid mahogany, oak, Satinwood and walnut and although they were more heavily reproduced they are still extremely good quality. It was the height of fashion to copy earlier designs such as Chippendale and Hepplewhite but using their own more comfortable and delicate style. As Machines were now used in their construction, traditionalist cabinet makers created their own movements from the french Art Nouveau designs to the hand built Arts and Crafts, more solid and done by skilled chair makers. Upholstery was high in demand along with larger dining chair sets to accompany full dining room suites all matching with decorative carving details. Edwardian antique chairs can be a good choice to add to your collection as most are solid enough for everyday use, there is more of a selection from this period and here at Antiques World, we always have a good collection available to buy.
