The Antique Serpentine Front Chest of Drawers is a type of 18th and 19th Century chest with a very unusual shape. They have a wavy edge similar to the bow front but with half a bow front on either side. This design was first introduced in the Georgian period and these are most sought after by collectors in quality woods such as solid Mahogany. Only a very skilled Cabinet maker could produce such skilled craftsmanship so they are quite rare to find as they were not commonly built. You often see these made by renowned makes like Gillows of Lancaster, the rarest from the Regency period with brass lion paw feet or with canted sides along with blind fretwork carvings and a pull out brushing slide. Victorian and Edwardian Cabinet makers introduced this wonderfully shaped antique serpentine front chest but in appealing smaller proportions and constructed from earlier Georgian timbers so are real quality pieces but at a fraction of the price of an original. They sill look like a genuine period chest with canted corners, graduating oak lined serpentine shaped drawers with brass handles and are an ideal piece of bedroom or living room furniture. Have a look below at our lovely examples we currently have available for sale.
