Magnificent Georgian Gillows Mahogany Antique Secretaire / Bookcase

Constructed from the Finest Quality Mahogany Timbers and Attributed to Gillows, this Magnificent Georgian Gillows Antique Secretaire / Bookcase dates from around 1790.  This breath taking antique has the most spectacular moulded swan neck pediment with fretwork carving and detailed carved rose heads, this sits on a moulded cornice with dental moulding.  Beneath lies two astragal glazed doors with key with working lock and the interior has two adjustable shelves with a very early pleated silk lining.  The lower section has a moulded top above a deep double door with the original brass swan neck handles which opens to reveal a green baize writing insert, four small oak lined drawers and a central cupboard door which is beautifully cross banded in satinwood and two secret sliding drawers.  This truly astonishing antique stands on beautifully turned reeded legs and unusual shaped X framed cross stretcher and splits into three sections for easy removal. The mahogany has aged to a rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
