Directions
Ensure that your wood that is going to be oiled, is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt etc. In most cases you will need to ensure that all previous finishes have been removed back to the bare wood.
Application on Interior wood
- Remove any existing wax finishes with Liberon Wax and Polish Remover or sand back to bare wood. If there are any existing varnish / polished finish, remove with a suitable paint stripper like Rustins Strypit.
- Once the surface is clean, dry and free of any dust, you can either apply a coat of Liberon Palette Wood Dye if you would like to change the tone of the wood or just apply directly onto the timber.
- Apply the 1st coat using a good quality oiling brush and leave for around 20 minutes before wiping away the excess with a lint free cloth (Osmo easy pads are ideal)
- Repeat for 2 – 3 more times but you can add more coats if necessary.
- You can de-nib between coats with very fine 0000 steel wool.
- You should re apply Danish oil at least once per year for long term protection.
Application on Exterior wood
- The wood should be clean, dry and free from any rotting timber. Repair any wood rot before application. You may need to sand your timber before application to remove blacking, greying or mould. Suitable treatments are available if needed to treat these areas.
- You can apply as many coats as needed (we recommend the minimum of 4 coats on new wood) with a good quality brush. Leave to thoroughly dry between applications.
- You can de-nib between coats with, very fine (0000) steel wool if required.
- Liberon Danish oil is not suitable for external Oak. For external oak we recommend the use of a Liberon Tung oil.
Maintenance of wood treated in Danish Oil
Wood treated with Danish oil can be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe away any spills immediately. Usually an application of Liberon Danish Oil will be needed once to twice per year depending on how often the surface is used. Exterior wood should br re-coated at least twice per year.

Liberon Danish Oil will enhance the natural colour of the wood so it will slightly darken the timber once oiled. To get an indication colour before application, slightly wet the bare wood with water.
Always do a small inconspicuous test area first to ensure product suitability and you are happy with the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions at all times.
