Antique Hall Stands

Victorian Walnut Antique Hall Stand

Antique Hall Stands are free standing pieces of antique furniture often seen in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. They were built by 19th Century cabinet makers in Oak, Mahogany and Walnut woods to the more unusual bentwood coat stand designs. Antique hall stands will usually have, turned wooden hooks or Copper hooks for coat hanging. They can have a central mirror that sits above a glove box complete with hinged lid, although today it is more likely to be used as a storage place for keys and mobile phones! The hall stand sits on a base consisting of beautifully turned upright supports with storage space for umbrellas and walking sticks. They also have a tin ‘drip tray’ in the base to catch any water from umbrellas, this would protect the floor and also the piece of furniture. They often come with Arts and Crafts influences and can be called a hat stand or umbrella stand. These impressive antiques would grace any period hallway with all the necessary grandeur it deserves. We do often get good examples in stock but because they are so popular, they do sell fast. If you are looking for one of these unusual stands please let us know as we get them in regularly.
