Description
Unusual Victorian Rosewood Antique Coal Podonium.
Dating from around 1890 in the Victorian period this unusual antique coal podonium is constructed from a beautifully figured rosewood. It has a decorative brass gallery above a serpentine shaped top below which can be found a central bevelled mirror. The lower section has a marble top and shaped sides above a delightfully inlaid fall front with moulded edges and original brass handle. Although originally designed as a coal scuttle this would make an ideal magazine store for the modern home! The sides display the original brass carrying handles and the whole piece stands on porcelain castors. The rosewood is a lovely warm medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
