Striking Quality Victorian Mahogany Bonheur Du Jour Writing Desk
In the Gillows design and of superb quality, this stunning writing desk dates from around 1880 and has a central lift up lid with stationary compartment, key with working lock flanked by six small mahogany lined drawers. This sits above a red tooled leather writing insert with moulded edge, central mahogany lined frieze drawer with elegant fine scrolled carvings. This wonderful piece stands on four turned reeded legs and has a lower shaped tier. The mahogany has aged to a rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
