Striking Gillows Victorian Mahogany Antique Double Wardrobe
This striking 19th century Victorian Mahogany Antique Double Wardrobe / Press is almost certainly by the renowned makers Gillows of Lancaster, with the RD number stamped on the edge 1654. It has an unusual thin moulded cornice above two full length doors with central beautifully figured fielded panels, deep arched mouldings and key with working lock. The corners have spectacular carved corbels and the piece stands on a plain inverted breakfront plinth. The right interior has a later hanging rail above five oak lined drawers with original brass handles and the left interior has a later hanging rail and one lower oak lined drawer with original brass handle. The wardrobe has original backboards, splits into four sections for ease of removals, is a rich Mahogany colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good original condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of furniture wax finishing.
