Antique William IV Furniture

William IV furniture is from the era of when King William was on the throne in England from 1830 to 1837 and although it was a short period some very nice pieces of antique furniture were made in fine timbers with unusual features. William IV furniture displayed decorative features similar to the Regency design but with slightly more decoration. Carvings like claw animal feet and beautiful figured woods were used like Rosewood and Mahogany. It is a very nice period to collect as quality was a big factor in the construction and so pieces were built to last.

Antique dinning chairs were usually with two carvers, all with wonderfully curved backs that have fine decoratively carved detailing. This fine set of chairs stand on splayed back legs and elegant turned octagonal front legs. The Two carvers have spectacular scrolled arms and would complement any dinner table.

Delicate detailing was added to antique bookcases like a half round moulded edge. This would have a decorative carved frieze and glazed doors with elegant carvings along with beautifully scrolled carved corbels. As animal carvings were at the height of fashion, these were applied to all kinds of furniture in the home. This William IV antique Mahogany secretaire cupboard has the most elegant scrolled carvings and the most spectacular carved claw feet. The top is cross-banded edge above a deep moulded drawer that falls down to reveal a writing desk insert, several mahogany lined drawers and pigeon holes.
