Antique Oak Furniture can range from pale limed, light golden or to very dark in colour. Oak is a hard, solid wood, is very versatile, durable and therefore was favourable with cabinet makers. This wood was one of the first timbers to be used in Britain and can be seen on many early primitive pieces but was widely used throughout the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods as well.
The early examples can include coffers, mule chests and benches along with refectory tables. These pieces were mainly made in the 17th and 18th centuries. Then came more usable pieces, like the chest of drawers and chairs, made more often in the 19th and 20th century.
