Antique Regency Chairs date between 1800 to 1830 and are simple in design making them elegant and desirable. The grade of Mahogany and Rosewood that has been used to construct these wonderful chairs is exceptional and they come with unusual features like Brass string inlay, sabre legs, reeding and out-swept legs. Unusual designs can have a lyre back splat and most come with a H or X framed turned cross stretcher with added back support, meaning they are sturdy and good for everyday use. Most backs are curved, occasionally inlaid with plain sides and reeded bar back supports. Originally antique Regency chairs would have been upholstered in leather with horsehair stuffing but quite often get upholstered as the seats get worn over time. Being drop in seats, this is easily done and they can be upholstered with a neutral coloured fabric so would fit in with any decor. These marvellous antique chairs would have been originally french polished to a high sheen. This means they can retain a fine finish that we clean and restore using natural beeswax, keeping the original patina but to a high standard.
