Unusual Regency Mellow Mahogany Antique Writing Stand / Bookcase
This Exceptionally Unusual Mellow Mahogany Antique Writing Stand / Bookcase dates from around 1830 in the Regency period. This wonderful antique has been constructed from the finest quality mahogany timbers and is of unique small proportions. It has a moulded cornice above two glazed doors with key with working lock. The interior comprises of two adjustable shelves above a fixed shelf with three mahogany lined drawers and two pigeon holes. The lower section has a beautifully figured top with rosewood cross banded edge. The top is hinged and can be folded out to reveal a unique writing surface with a green baize interior. The mahogany lined drawer is cock beaded with the original decorative brass handles and the interior has an unusual drawer divider perfect for storing stationary. This amazing writing stand / bookcase stands on four elegant turned legs and splits into two sections for easy removal. The Mahogany has aged to a mellow shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
