The renowned cabinet makers James Winter & Sons were based in Soho London between 1823 to 1870 and produced some amazing pieces of antique furniture. James Winter founded his company in 1823 as a cabinet maker, undertaker, dealer, appraiser and specialised as a restorer of second hand and antique furniture to retail in his Soho shop. His sons joined his firm and then the business was renamed James Winter & Sons, 101 Wardour St., Soho, London. It was throughout the Regency and Victorian period, James Winters Company flourished with stunning new designs and beautifully crafted, restored furniture retailed to their Victorian customer’s diverse tastes.

This Regency Mahogany Antique Library Bookcase is by the renowned cabinet makers James Winter & Son, 101 Wardour St., Soho, London. It is of magnificent quality with a secretaire drawer, having turned handles and a central rounded moulding. The drawer front is hinged and folds down, with the interior having green baize writing insert along with four satin birch drawers, small ebonized handles and several pigeon holes.
This Remarkable Small Glazed Mahogany Antique Bookcase by James Winter dates from around 1830 in the Regency period. This splendid piece has a beautifully figured top with half round moulded edge above two glazed doors with key with working lock and brass clash mould.
This Country House Set of Eight Victorian Oak Balloon Back Antique Dining Chairs by James Winter & Sons date from around 1870 and are full of beautiful charm and character. They have shaped moulded backs and stand on splayed back legs and beautifully turned front legs and have early red leather seats with stud trim.

I have a James Winter and Sons armoire and am asking if you can tell me anything about this piece. I know they went out of business in 1870 but beyond that I know very little. It is in pristine condition. I hope you have a few minutes to provide any insight into the piece or can guide me to someone in your firm who may be able to help.

There is not much more information other than what is on this blog page unfortunately. They did make some amazing pieces and always used high quality timbers.
