Spectacular Quality Arts & Crafts Victorian Walnut Glazed Bookcase on Cupboard
Possessing the original makers stamp JOS James, a Victorian cabinet maker from Penrith, this spectacular bookcase on cupboard dates from around 1880 in the Victorian period and is of the most remarkable quality. It has a moulded cornice above two glazed doors with key with working lock and each interior has two adjustable shelves. The lower section has a moulded top above a central drawer with decorative brass handles above two cupboard doors with quality moulded panels again with key with working lock. The left hand interior has one removable shelf whilst the right hand interior has two removable shelves. This striking piece stands on a moulded plinth and splits into two sections for easy removal. The walnut has aged to a warm rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
