Antique Drum Tables

Antique Drum Tables are a Circular multi sided Library tables with several drawers around the frieze, some are dummy drawers and others working drawers. These antique tables were first introduced in the late 18th century and have a rotating leather top, standing on a central turned pedestal. They are referred to as ‘rent tables’, as traditionally they were used by landlords to keep the accounts of rent money due and paid. Drawers would be labelled up with days of the week and act as a filing system for the rent collector. The main timber used in construction was Mahogany, usually with veneered drawer fronts and edges. The best quality antique drum tables have oak drawer linings and quality brass handles. The rotating top will sit on a bulbous turned pedestal with four out-swept legs terminating in quality brass lion paw castors. They would certainly prove to be a focal point in any living space. Antique drum tables are quite unusual to find in original condition, especially form the Georgian and Regency periods.
