Antique Regency Mahogany Rotating Drum Table.
This rare antique Regency mahogany drum table, circa 1830 would certainly prove to be a focal point in any living space. This style of table was first introduced in the late 18th century, they were also known as loo tables as the game of loo was often played on them. Variations on this model can also be found and are often referred to as rent tables. Drawers would be labelled up with days of the week and act as a filing system for the rent collector. This particular model has a green tooled leather insert on the top, clearly marking out four playing areas. This sits above a deep apron containing four working drawers and four faux drawers with brass handles and ebony inlay. The rotating top sits on a bulbous reeded turned pedestal with four out-swept legs terminating in quality brass lion paw castors. This very desirable, quality, antique drum table has aged to a medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
